Liquid Sunshine is my personal electronic music
project. My inspiration comes from a variety of
sources including Zorn, Xenakis, Merzbow, Jochem
Paap, Cage, and many others. It is an attempt to
combine the stylistic features of more "commercial"
music, such as Aphex Twin, with my knowledge of the
Western art music tradition. However, that assumes
that an artist such as Jochem Paap (Speedy J) is in
fact "commercial". I contend that while these
artists may play at clubs and release albums
instead of single works, the same creativity and
conceptual depth found in the composition of
"Western art music" can be found here as well. What
are these distinctions anyway, other than an
attempt to commodify an artist's personal vision by
the market-driven culture industry?
That said, my music is supposed to be fun. You can find samples below as well as a couple complete tunes made entirely with Pd (and Pro Tools for audio sequencing). Also check out my first music video for the song “Gravity Chamber”. It consists of bits and pieces from old public domain sci-fi movies. I ask that anything downloaded be used by you personally and not uploaded to a music sharing network. I believe in the online distribution of music, but I also believe in the composer’s right to control his or her work. I also ask that if you download something, please send me comments, good, bad, or otherwise.
