Kodály Music Educators of Kansas,  An Affiliate Chapter of OAKE

Welcome to Kodály Music Educators of Kansas:

Our KMEK chapter began in 2004 at the dining room table of Kirk Olson.  He and Lisa Simmelink were the first Kansans to believe that the Kodály Method needed to come to the prairie.  They began talking to Elaine Bernstorf, professor at Wichita State University, and soon the Kodály Certification program began at WSU.  With some of the first students of Level 1, KMEK was established and with the vision of Kirk and Lisa, this small, hardworking, chapter began.

We are 25 members strong currently and would welcome you to join us if you are interested in learning more about the Kodály method, our KMEK chapter, or thinking about becoming Kodály certified.  We have at least 2 workshops per year, quarterly meetings, and socials when we can.  You are more than welcome to be a part of any of these activities.

We are active in our state and community.  Currently we are represented on the KMEA board,   we are in the process of beginning a recorder ensemble to play at Renaissance Fairs and other events, we host workshops for our members and community and we work closely with USD 259, Wichita, for mentoring and workshop presenters.  We are well represented at State and Regional levels with Lisa Simmelink, charter President elect, on the MKMEA board, and Holly Taylor, a KMEK charter member, the KMEA elementary chairperson.

We take pride in the accomplishments of our members and we play a supportive role in where we are needed.

Please join us for a workshop, at WSU Kodály level classes, or just for a social.  Check our web page for all the current activities we have planned.

Musically yours,

Judy Mareda, KMEK President
