VSynth 2007

Steve Wilson and his video synthesizer are performing with Rodney Miller, WSU Dean of Fine Arts on his solo recital on February 11th. Wilson will be performing a live video interpretation of Schubert's Die Winterreise song cycle. The vsynth is currently undergoing major revisions in preparation for this event. Check out the video synthesizer page for more info on the changes happening. Dean Miller is joined by Dr. Julie Bees (piano), Nic Johnson (mime), and other dance students. Additionally, Wilson will be using images from artist Mark Brown's Die Winterreise series of paintings.

Referring to the current changes as "revisions" is a bit misleading. Wilson is actually completely reprogramming the software from scratch, borrowing only very basic pieces from the original. The new vsynth is more refined and offers a greater amount of detailed control to the user. It still uses the M-Audio UC-33e interface for user control as this is still the most practical solution while a team of electrical engineering students work to develop a unique, expressive interface.

Significant changes include:
    Cross-fading between effects and images
Effects chain for layering multiple video effects
Easy camera switching for using one video feed in full-screen mode
    Threshold adjustment for smooth fades
Chebyshev color filtering with multiple presets for easy recall
Still image support for mixing with a live video feed
    Image rotation
Image mirroring, both vertical and horizontal

Pictures coming soon!
