Technology: Art and Sound by Design

one-bitlove
This is a brand new class for the Spring 2006 semester which meets Tuesday/Thursday 11:00am-12:15pm.  It is cross-referenced in the colleges of Engineering and Fine Arts, with Professor John Harrison instructing.

Class Description:
Technology:Art and Sound by Design consists of lectures and a lab, with a focus on artistic philosophy and its application through technology.  Students will build circuits and interface them to computers, while considering how these might contribute to their own artistic creations.  Lectures will include guests from artistic and technical disciplines who will stimulate conversations about art, teach about electronics, and challenge common assumptions regarding the relationship between the two.  Labs will give a practical, friendly introduction to building circuits and working with sensors.  For the final project, students of disparate disciplines work in pairs to create interactive arts.  Students registering for the course are expected to have a solid background in either the arts or electrical engineering, but are not expected to be proficient at both.
