Introduction to Sound Synthesis covers a variety of
classic synthesis techniques, digital signal processing,
and audio production. During the semester students build
software instruments using PureData (Pd). Additionally the
students are exposed to important electronic works both
classic (e.g. Stockhausen, Xenakis,Varese) and contemporary
(e.g. Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Richard Devine). The
midterm and final consists of using the software
instruments built in class to create an original electronic
composition.
