The X Axis

Setting the stage for the X axis is one of the easiest parts. You’ve got the rails laid and the motor and drill rod in place. Just cut a nice square piece of FLAT material (notice I said FLAT) and lay it on the rails. Now we are going to take a coupling nut and clamp it into a P clip. Coupling nuts are usually found near the drill rod at the hardware store. The P clip you can buy or make by just bending a piece of metal in a P shape.

Now cut a piece of the aluminum channel and mount it along one edge of the square piece. Then take one of those bearing assemblies we made for the Z axis and mount it to the square so that the channel is firm against the rail. See the picture.

And there you have it. You’ve got two axises. The Y axis is not much more difficult than the X.
