Kenny

John is filling this out for Kenny

Ideas I’m considering for a project:

Kenny is very interested in hardware and computers. He has been putting a lot of energy into getting his own computer, and he finally just ordered one. It’s a Chromebook and he plans to make it dual-boot — something that could be challenging given its 16GB solid state drive. :-)

Already I know how to:

Kenny has scoured the web for cool Pd projects and has modified some to make them his own. To this end he has done some impressive work with Pd.

I need some technical help with:

Kenny would definitely enjoy integrating other hardware with his project.

I’m looking for ideas about:

Kenny has been less focused on ideas as opposed to the methods and technical details in which to carry them out.

Ian

John is filling this out for Ian

Ideas I’m considering for a project:

Ian is working with different pre-recorded songs and has configured a beat detector that works ok but could probably be tweaked. He is experimenting with visuals, such as random circles drawn at random places on the screen, to correspond with the beat.

Already I know how to:

Ian has a good sense of Pd and how it works functionally.

I need some technical help with:

Ian is unfamiliar with especially the visual elements that could help him.

I’m looking for ideas about:

Ian can’t make the final concert May 1. I think he could benefit from more conversation to refine his idea into something more specific and practical.

Izzy’s Project Plan

Ideas I’m considering for a project:

I would like to create some kind of object that plays notes (such as violin, synth, etc…) and corresponds to a video. An example would be where when a note is played an image would appear on screen. For the object I’m considering using tin foil/aluminum tape to create something such as a floor mat or tissue box with notes that relate to the notes needed to play a song.

Already I know how to:

I know how to use the video patch, and edit video/audio. I can also work with arrays and know how to configure notes.

I need some technical help with:

I would really appreciate help (once I’ve fixed my computer) setting up the video to work with teh played note, and the configuration of that.

I’m looking for ideas about:

Possible odd sounds and/or videos to play around with.

Additional Comments:

Thank you for your time, and I really appreciate any help! :)

Katie’s Project Thingy

Ideas I’m considering for a project:

I was considering creating a “musical canvas”.  You could use the color tracker as a “paintbrush”, and then paint pictures on the screen using the “tails” patch.  Depending on the colors you were using and the area of the screen you drew them on, different melodies and notes would begin to play.  So, in theory, you could draw a variety of pictures and patterns to create all sorts of different combinations of music.

Already I know how to:

I now know how to use the color tracking interface to draw the “tails” instead of the mouse.  I can also create all the music/melodies to be used for the application.  I’m pretty sure I know how to make it begin playing music when the color tracker enters a certain portion of the screen.

I need some technical help with:

Lots of things… I may be able to figure some of this out on my own, but right now I’m not 100% sure how to edit the RGB values (I played around with it, but could only get it to generate 8 colors) with keystrokes (although once I figure out how to adjust the RGB value, I can do this pretty easily).  I don’t know how to set a variable and call it later (although I’m sure this is pretty easy to figure out). Also, I would like a way delay the start of the music so it lines up with whatever is currently playing. (Perhaps some sort of timer that only sends the signal to start the music every five seconds?) I’m not sure if that really makes any sense… I’m also sure other things will come up as I go along.

I’m looking for ideas about:

I don’t think I need any creative ideas, at least at this stage in development. Most of my issues are technical ones.

Additional Comments:

None that I can think of right now.

Andrew – guitar synth

Ideas I’m considering for a project:

Using a guitar, PD, and a petal to loop and distort the sound

Already I know how to:

Make a synthesizer, play guitar (kind of)

I need some technical help with:

Putting together the patches in PD to get the sound to work correctly

I’m looking for ideas about:

How to possibly incorporate a synthesizer on a homemade guitar

Additional Comments:

I will probably have a lot of hiccups in the process, so as I work on it I’ll ask for the help I need!

Jessica’s Project

Ideas I’m considering for a project:

I want to make audio more visual with symbolism like shapes and colors. I want to program something I composed to play with midi or be played by me and and be converted into visuals. I would consider incorporating my saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder, and piano but I’ll probably only use something easy like my clarinet or recorder. I have a keyboard with a midi output cables but I’ve never configured it to work with my computer.

Already I know how to:

Graphics like light spheres and colors.

I need some technical help with:

Gravity and movement throughout the window

Working with midi files

I’m looking for ideas about:

 Can’t think of anything
