Team Glen – Progress Report I for Prototype II: Smart Mailbox System]

Goals for the week:

Come up with a code to read the key on each RFID TAGs .

We spent some time testing the code for reading the RFID tags.  The goal here is that once we can read each key, we will save those keys.  The next step will be to implement a code that matches the already saved keys with the one from a totally different TAG.  If there is not a match, nothing will happen.  However, if a key correspond to one of the allowed keys, then an LED will be turn on/off. This LED will be later replaced by a stepper or servo motor.  The stepper or servo motor will be used to lock/unlock the mailbox door.

Meeting times/dates

We met as a group on Friday for 2 hours from 12.30 to 2.30.

Individual Hours:

Tetteh – spent 5 hours working on the code to read the keys stored on each TAG.

Dhreen – spent about an hour researching on how the RFID tags connect to the scanner antennas 

Glen – Working about 0.6 hours on RFID Code for our first program that will read our Tag ID’s.

What we did:

We do have a code for reading the keys, however this code is not returning the keys yet.

What we didn’t do:

Debugging the code.  After the code is done uploading onto the Arduino, the below error message is displayed:

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0×30

Where we are stuck:

We are not stuck.


The shipment for the RFID tags was not received until yesterday evening.  Which did not give us much time to debug the issue we are having.

I was having trouble saving last night because I was editing the same post at the same time when Tetteh was editing. I couldn’t save it. But I updated it now.
