What we did:

  • We went to meet our client Shary at CPRF.
  • we tested the mount on the wheel chair and realized that we have to cut the mount and make it perpendicular, contacted Greg and will vist CPRF this Tuesday.
  • We tested the motor with the camera and found out that the motor was not holding the weight of the camera and lens so ordered and received new motor which is 1RPM (we were using 6RPM ) motor earlier.
  • worked on designing circuit board having problem with limit switches behaving little weird.

Current Week

What we did:

  • Tube for mounting the product into the wheelchair was bent for holding the base of the product
  • The base platform of the product was redesign to accustom the tube
  • Ordered and received two small switches for placing it as a limit switch to the pitch movement
  • Worked on arduino and wrote code for the pitch movement from joystick.
  • Cut the gears from plexi glass for the horizontal movement 
  • Glued the shaft for the horizontal movement

 

What we didn’t do:

Finish the arduino code for control of servo and motor

Goals:

  • Need to complete the circuit and arduino code for controlling motor and servo together with joystick.
  • Finish the mount and fix the base to the mount
  • Start work on circuit board

What we did:

-Worked on parts , fixed the issues that came upon while assembling the parts.

-assembled the parts together along with the motor for the pitch movement.

-worked on electrical components for the motor

-With Tom’s guidance, we were able to achieve on using motor and changing its direction

-Tested the motor for its movement on the assembled parts and controlling it with the potentiometer for changing directions

-Used L272 amplifier for amplifying the signals from arduino to drive the motor powered from  the battery

We are working on the electrical design.

What we did:

Tom had our parts cut from Aluminum with our design from Catia. We worked on assembly of parts, encountered and fixed some problems related to screws and drilling holes for the assembly.

What we didn’t do:

We didn’t work on power supply as we met only one day

Current Week

Individual Hours:

All worked together.

What we did:

Bill worked on editing the Catia design to add more room for pitch movement. Others worked on testing the motor with the DC Power Supply to check the current and voltage. Assembled the parts that were cut and tested the motor.

What we didn’t do:

We need to build the circuit board for hooking up battery, arduino and servo/motors. We talked with Tom on how to achieve it and he suggested us to use amplifier in order to provide the current more than 40mA which can’t be handled by arduino.

Where we are stuck:

We are working on little modification on our design to increase room for pitch angle. We need to do that and cut the required parts in Aluminum.

  • Finish redesign and cut the parts (if possible)

Current Week : 10/01 to 10/06

Individual Hours:

What we did:

 

  • Decided on using .25 inch plexi glass (which will be replaced by 0.25 inch Aluminum later) and .0175 inch plexi glass for the parts.
  • Cut the plexi glass from the design from Catia using Laser Cutter. 
  • Matched all the parts that were cut to check if they fit together and drilled holes for screw.
  • Went to Home Depot and Ace Hardware and bought the desired screws for the design and also bought the cylindrical Aluminum shaft that connects the camera platform to the gear.
  • Worked on assembly of the parts.
  • Worked on the lathe machine for turning the shaft.

What we didn’t do:

We have not yet started to work on electronics part, we were also waiting for Battery which we got yesterday.

Where we are stuck:

Things are going fine till now.

Upcoming Week

Goals:

  • Complete the shaft and assemble all together
  • Work on the rectangular shaft for horizontal 360 degree rotation.
  • Test the motor/gears to check if it can hold the weight with no power supply.
  • Start working on the servo/motor for the rotational movement
  • If time permits,  test the current drawn by 11.5 V Li Po Battery for different loads

What we did:

We worked on our time schedule on Gantt Chart and updated the work load. We talked with Tom about the material to use for the design and decided to use Aluminum.

Bill is working on designing our product on Catia and we are hoping to cut it. We have ordered 6rpm motor (http://www.servocity.com/html/6_rpm_gear_motor.html),

32 Pitch Gear Motor (http://www.servocity.com/html/32_pitch_gearmotor_pinion_gear.html), Battery Pack (ZIPPY Compact 1500mAh 3S 25C Lipo Pack).

 

 

What we didn’t do:

We have not started building the product yet. We are waiting for the parts to come.

Where we are stuck:

We are consulting with Tom on cutting the Aluminum from the design that we have in Catia.

We are going to cut the Aluminum and Plexi glass next week. Work on assembly of the parts. Start working on Arduino with the parts that we ordered.

What we did:

We narrowed down our design ideas on how we are going to build the product. We worked on contract and we will be doing the following things:

  • Use a 4 rpm or a 6 rpm, high torque motors for the pitch movement (http://www.servocity.com/html/4_rpm_gear_motor.html)
  • Use the similar motor for the rotational movement.
  • Addition of a quick release mount for the camera
  • Battery powered product
  • we will limit the pitch movement to -45 degree to +60 degree

What we didn’t do:

We didn’t start building it yet 

Where we are stuck:

We are waiting for the contract to be done and start building our product as soon as we can

Current Week

What we did:

We met Shary Rose at CPRF and talked with her. We went over our design from last semester with her and she gave helpful suggestions about improving our design to assist her in using the camera. Things that we learned from the meeting are:

-The camera she is using is E-620 Olympus.

-She expected the overall design to cost around $100-$150.

-She doesn’t want the system to be mount permanently.

-It wants the camera to be mount easily so she can mount it herself to the system.

-She has a remote control system to access the  camera

-She wants easy to mount system for the wheelchair.

-She is using 2 lenses

-The control system for the wheelchair is made by INVACARE and the wheel is called INVACARE AERO.

-She would like our system to be concealed (not clear to see everything inside)

-She would like to have more pitch angle so that she can take pictures of sky

-We found that our joystick was very small for her to use so we need to get the one with longer stick.

-She would like to have the vertical pan movement if possible.

-She asked if the camera system could be controlled from wheelchair’s joystick by putting on different mode (we would have to talk with Greg Carpenter for that)

 


What we didn’t do:

We were waiting for the communication with our client before we start any further in building the design. So, we are glad that we could met her and start building from coming week.

Where we are stuck:

-We are doing research on the possibility of integrating our system with wheelchair.

-Designing of the vertical pan movement challenge with our existing design.
