Current Week

Individual Hours:

Nick 4 hours

Michael 4 hours

Zubair 4 hours

What we did:

All of the team members worked on compiling the device together and testing it on different jars. We have successfully put together all the device part and worked on a little changes that we were supposed to do and then finally tested it. The device is working and doing the task mentioned on our contract. We are ready to present our project at the exploration place.

What we didn’t do:

So far we are done with the project.

Where we are stuck:

Testing of the device on couple of extra jars and lids and then put the data together on the website

Upcoming Week

Goals:

Drafting the content for the website (Other Units). Start the testing for different sets of jars. list down the specifications as well as the measurement for the device. Make our project presentable in the Exploration place.

Meeting times/dates

Tuesday and Thursday Mornings. Yet the timings are not fixed.

Zubair 5 hours

What we did:

Since the project is almost to completion, we worked on mounting the top part on the device. The top layer was re designed again for the use of battery compartment. The sides of the Plexiglas were also glued to each other. One half of the top part was fixed while the other one was screwed down to sides for battery change purpose. If the user has to install new batteries, they have to open up the two screws, lift the battery compartment and replace new batteries.

What we didn’t do:

We have to take off the screws from the bottom part and re insert it from the top. This would help in case of mechanical failure of the device so we can take off the top part out easily and then work on the mechanical issues. If we don’t do it, then the only solution of reaching to the base part of the device is to break the glass (which is not recommended). Zubair will work on it.

Where we are stuck:

We have to start testing the device for different jars and cans and record the values. Also we have to take the measurements of the device so we can use it for the content of the website.

Upcoming Week

Goals:

Drafting the content for the website (Other Units). Start the testing for different sets of jars. list down the specifications as well as the measurement for the device.

Current Week

Individual Hours:

Nick 4 hours

Michael 4 hours

Zubair 4 hours

What we did:

During this week, Nick and Michael worked on building the PCB board for the device. The PCB board is complete and working.  Zubair worked with tom to assemble the plexi glass parts on to the device. So far the bottom part has been screwed on to the device. Also the required holes were are carved in to the middle section of the top part of the device.  He is also working on gathering the information for the website content.

What we didn’t do:

Mount the box on top of the device. We still have to use the glue to hold the sides and all the parts.

Where we are stuck:

The central part of the box needs to be redesigned. For that we just have to change the measurements on the drawing and then cut it using the laser cutter. Also the battery compartment needs to be built and finally everything shall be placed inside the box to implement the design.

Upcoming Week

Goals:

Drafting the content for the website (Other Units). Mounting the top part on to the device and gluing the sides. Start the testing for different sets of jars.

Zubair 4 hours

What we did:

During this week, Nick work on building the PCB board for the device. The coding is complete. Michael designed the top cover for the device and then tested it. Zubair then used the design and made the box using the laser cutter with all the proper dimensions. He is also working on the website content.

What we didn’t do:

Mount the box on top of the device. We still have to use the glue to hold the sides and all the parts.

Where we are stuck:

Specific website content still needs to be updated but it can only be done once the device is complete with all its functionalities.

Upcoming Week

Goals:

PCB circuit complete. Drafting the content for the website (Specification). Mounting the top part on to the device.

Meeting times/dates

Tuesday and Thursday Mornings. Yet the timings are not fixed.

Individual Hours:

Nick 3 hours

Michael 3 hours

Zubair 3 hours

What we did:

Nick is still working on the code for the resiliency on the device so if the cap is mounted wrongly, the device can check for the error. Basically, we are trying to test the code to gather as much information as we can. Michael is working with Tom on the PCB chip for thew circuit to be transferred and then mounted on top of the device. Zubair is working on the website. The first page is already updated and he is moving all the work over to a word file which will later be used as the final report. The team believes that the next week is when we will be finally done with everything and hand over the device to Sherry for Testing.

What we didn’t do:

We were able to do everything we planned this week successfully.

Where we are stuck:

Specific information to be included in the final report. Zubair looked in to some manuals of website and kind of have an idea but after discussing will Tom, the implementation can be done.

Upcoming Week

Goals:

PCB circuit complete. Drafting the content for the website (Specification). Finalize the design

What we did:

Earlier this week Nick was working on the code for the resiliency on the device so if the cap is mounted wrongly, the device can check for the error. We have the code figured out and everything is working fine now. I researched on some plastic extender we can use for the top part of the device (which is the only thing that is left). Michael is working with Tom on the PCB chip for thew circuit to be transferred and then mounted on top of the device. Next week is when we will be finally done with everything. Nick and Michael will do the testing and Zubair will combine the data and start working on the Website content from this week as well as building the top half of the device.

What we didn’t do:

We were able to do everything we planned this week successfully.

Where we are stuck:

Figure out a new design for the top half of the device

Upcoming Week

Goals:

PCB circuit complete. Drafting the content for the website. Finalize the design

Goals

The Product that is available in Market to be ordered and later analyzed for mechanism. We have the the rotating part figured out by now.

Meeting times/dates

Tuesday 07:00 pm to 8:30 pm Thursday 9:15 am to 11:00 am

Individual Hours:

Zubair Imtiaz – Documentation (Minutes of Meeting) and Research on the mechanism of the product.

Nick & Michael – Researched device and came up with the plan. Michael ordered the rest of the things and bought few from local store

What we did:

Michael ordered another device and now we are working on design on how to put rest of the set up on it so the device functions well. We cam up with few plans with using OpAmp and Arduinos to be attached on the device. The cap closing part is figured out and ready to be mounted..

Where we are stuck:

Still have to sign the contract with Dr. Skinner and waiting on for few of the things

Goals for Next week:

1. Sign the Contract

2. Start to assemble the parts we have figured out.

Current Week (9/9 – 9/15)

Individual Hours:

Zubair – 3 Hours

Michael – 3hours

Nick – 3 hours

What we did:

We were luck to contact our resident finally, Michael went over to the CPRF office and asked our resident couple of questions regarding the solution to her problem, what was it that  she actually wants in the end product and pretty much solved the problem and gave us a good idea that what is it that she is mainly looking for at the end of the semester. We started working on the model/design of the product and is currently working on the rotating part of the device. Also we talked about how to incorporate sensors on the device.

What we didn’t do:

We have not yer created the base (if we are planning to create a new one), still looking for options about the design.

Where we are stuck:

The top part of the device that grips and rotates the caps.

Upcoming Week

Goals:

Getting the basics of the device together, a final design that we will be working on, mechanics of the grip and rotation part.

Meeting times/dates

Tuesday – 7 onwards

Thursday – Still have to decide

Saturday – 1 pm onwards

What we did:

Discussed different design models with Tom. Michael and Tom cut  two prototype pieces out of plastic. The pieces cut out will be used to grip the of  the jar. We visited the metal shop and picked some metal. Nick worked on creating the arms that would attach the piece Michael worked on to the motors.

What we didn’t do:

Still haven’t completely figured out our final design. Need to write and submit our contract.

Where we are stuck:

Can not get a hold of the resident at CPRF have called the message  and left message several times. We are not able to get in contact he and work out a subtract.

Upcoming Week

Goals:

Get ahold of residents at CPRF.

Finish Contract
